36 Weeks Sonogram -- September 12, 2008

On Friday, September 12th, we had a day of doctor's. From the Sonogram appointment at 9:00 to the weekly Obstetrician appointment that was supposed to be at 9:30 but ended up about 11:00, and the Pediatrician Urologist appointment at 3:15. We were hopeful since the last appointment the right kidney was just a little dilated that it corrected itself, but it was now at an all time big (measuring 21 mm.) The sonogram doctor was a little bit more concerned and recommended we keep the appointment with the Urologist. Basically, it could be anything from reflux to an obstruction. They will know more after the little guy is born and they run a few tests (sonogram of his little tummy and a VCUG - filling the bladder with a liquid dye and taking x-rays to see the direction of the urine). This is called Hydronephrosis meaning there is water inside the kidney, causing the increase and decrease of size. The picture above shows the size of the right kidney (we are not sure if the other smaller black dots are the left kidney. We have another sonogram picture of the left kidney but it is hard to determine on this picture). The doctors seem certain that the left kidney is functioning as it should, therefore he can function with only one good kidney.

So, all that being said... Please be praying for the little guy the next 3 weeks and especially after he is born during all these test. Psalm 139: 13-16 sums it up- The Lord is knitting our son and has special plans for him. Our son was created by God's hands alone and we take confidence in knowing that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (regardless of the kidneys.)

On a lighter note, I am sure you are all curious how big the Michelin Man is now. He is weighing in at 7 pounds 8 ounces!!!

Also, more exciting news...we have moved into our new home and loving having a place to spread our roots and start a family. We will upload pictures soon!
